Teach me [patience and] how to sew

One of my biggest desires in life is to sew. Like, really sew. Sew things that I can wear, and maybe you could wear. The problem is that sewing well requires a certain something that I lack; patience. Oh, and ironing - what a chore!
When I do finally learn how to sew, I hope to someday achieve the beauty of items like these.

In fairness, it needs to be said that I really should know how to sew. One of my greatest childhood memories watching my mother sew me a dress. I would draw a design, pick out the fabric, and she would sew them for me. I wonder if they're still around...
